Chef Educator Award with Chad Young
Sue Scott

The American Culinary Federation’s Indianapolis Chapter awarded the Chef Educator of the Year Award to Chad Young, who teaches classes at McCutcheon High School and the Greater Lafayette Career Academy.

This award pays tribute to an active culinary educator whose knowledge, skills and expertise have enhanced the image of  the professional chef, and who, by example, has given leadership, guidance and direction to students seeking a career in the culinary profession. The recipient of this award demonstrates the ability to help students define and develop their careers by using their skills and abilities to provide a strong foundation for their future success.

Young says it is an honor to be nominated and selected by his peers. “I feel like they trust my knowledge and expertise in the field of culinary education,” says Young.

Young uses multiple approaches to help develop students’ interest and skills: “First and foremost, I help bring out their natural passion even more. I make learning fun and not something that is intimidating. Through lab-based learning, I do my best to give each student the individual attention they need to be successful. Learning new skills and developing those skills, help the students gain more  confidence. More confidence equals more passion!”
